Engagement in der Studierendenschaft

Thanks to the Bologna reform and bachelor's degree programs, which are more reminiscent of school than university, it is unfortunately no longer a matter of course that studies are seen as a separate phase of life and not just as a transit station into professional life, something that one wants to get over with as quickly as possible. We would like to urge you: Take advantage of the opportunities to pursue interests beyond the actual subject studies. And above all: Take advantage of the offers of the student body!

You probably had your first contact with what is offered here at KIT by students for students during the orientation phase. Every year, the student councils – depending on the student council – organize a round-the-clock program for a few days to two weeks more or less to provide the first-year students with information, to show them the university and the city. And above all, to provide a framework to get to know fellow students. It may be possible to complete a course of study alone -- but together in a group with friends it is much easier and, above all, much more pleasant.

The student councils not only organize the O-Phase. You are also the first point of contact during your studies. If you have any questions about the course of study and exams, they can help you. The student council represents you in the committees of the faculty and thus ensures that the degree programs can really be studied. But that's not all the student council does. Game evenings, sports tournaments, student council festivals and much more. Of course, the whole thing lives from the fact that people get involved. If you want to participate, just stop by your student council for a coffee.

We are also looking forward to new faces at the AStA as a KIT-wide student representative. It is clear that not everyone wants to take on a presentation right away. But there are also many small ways to get involved. For example, at Ventil, the magazine of the AStA: Here we give everyone who writes about current developments in federal politics, about the last party of the student council, about soap or about anything else interesting the opportunity to publish their article. Or at the Unifest, the largest purely volunteer event in the region: Everyone who takes on a shift during the set-up or at the beer stand helps to ensure that such an event is feasible at all.

In addition to AStA and student councils, there are now about 100 AStA students at KIT. Hochschulgruppen, And the trend is still rising. They cover a wide variety of areas: from the political university groups represented in the student parliament to development aid, commitment to human rights, help for children, theater, student management consulting and parties. And everyone is happy when people want to participate. Of course, the same applies to AKK and Z10, the student centers on and near the campus.

Join in! Get involved! AStA, student councils, university groups - that's all what you make of it.
